At the end of the class the students will acquire the fundamental knowledge about the linguistic issues concerning the development of conversational interfaces. Moreover, the students will understand the main differences between th various architectures employed for realize conversational interfaces in industries.

This course will introduce to coversational Interfaces (CI), that are goal oriented dialogue systems and chat-bots.

In particular in the class we will briefly cover the state of art of the basic technologies (ASR, T2S, parsing, generation) and we will discuss the principal architetures adopted to build CI.

Syllabus:

1. history and SoA of CI, SR and T2S, Parsing and Generation for CI, study of some prototypical architectures (Alessandro Mazzei)

2. Pragmatics, speech acts and annotation schemata for Speech acts (Rossana Damiano)

3. NLG with formal semantics: a possible architecture (Invited Speaker).

4. CI at work: Invited Speaker from industry
